Brandy Norwood  appeared to be living the good life in the '90s, finding both fame and success at a very young age. But the truth was that this teen star was harboring a very dark secret: she was suffering from an eating disorder.

"I wanted to be so thin. That was my main thing," the 33-year-old star revealed during VH1's Behind the Music (via Us Weekly), set to air April 25 at 9 PM (ET/PT). "So I started not taking care of myself — not eating properly, not eating at all, diet pills, regurgitating, and all of these things that girls do."

Though she had multiple No. 1 hit singles and starred in the famous horror flick I Still Know What You Did Last Summer, the singer was never able to enjoy any of it. "People don't understand that being the hottest star or making the most money does not mean anything," she explained. "I'm here to tell you I was making so much money — I was omnipresent — and I was the unhappiest teenager probably in the world."

Brandy's good friend, Shay Calhoun, also had a few things to say in regards to the singer's troubled youth. "On the outside everybody saw this amazing person who had everything, but that's not what she saw when she looked in the mirror," Calhoun stated. "She felt she was never as good as everyone else thought that she was."

Say what you want about Hollywood, but it's not always as glamorous as it's made out to be.
